Nasce dalla confluenza della mwdwMatter Vispa, che scorre nella valle mweaMattertal, e della mweqSaaser Vispa, che scorre nella mwegValle di Saas, nei pressi di mwewStalden. I suoi principali affluenti sono la Rohrbach, la Breiterbach, la Riedbach e la Bächji.

Corre per la lunghezza di circa 9mwgq km nella mwggValle della Vispa e si getta nel mwgwRodano nei pressi di mwhaVisp.

Una parte delle acque del fiume sono captate per l'impianto della mwhgGrande Dixence.
